The pencil that pays tribute to Bill Russell

Limited edition

IT IS NOTABLE FOR:

  • Being a special edition that pays tribute to Bill Russell and his undeniable legacy on and off the basketball court.

Bill Russell won eleven championships in thirteen seasons as the heart of the greatest dynasty in basketball history. He was a dynamic champion on the court, whose impact changed the game forever. Off the court, his presence was even more significant as he fought for equality and social justice.

Bill Russell revolutionized the way the game was played. A dominant defender and rebounder, he transformed shot-blocking into an art form, turning defense into a weapon for the fast break. His selfless style of play redefined what it meant to be a star, prioritizing teamwork and strategy over individual statistics. For Russell, the game meant more than personal glory—it was about the principles that gave winning true meaning. A fearless advocate for equality, he was a vocal leader off the court, supporting civil rights icons like Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Muhammad Ali. The Blackwing 11 is our tribute to Bill Russell and his undeniable legacy. The number 11 stamped on each pencil represents the number of championships he won—more than any other player in NBA history. The design features a green and black color scheme with his iconic number 6 encircling the pencil body, along with a black ferrule, green rubber, and our soft graphite core.

ARTISTIC STYLE FOR TRUE SYBARITES

Blackwing pencils were originally introduced by the Eberhard Faber Pencil Company in the 1930s. Its cult following included John Steinbeck, Vladimir Nabokov, Truman Capote, and Chuck Jones, who proudly used the Blackwing 602 to create Bugs Bunny and many other Looney Tunes characters. He famously stated that a pen is full of ink, but the Blackwing is full of ideas. In 2010, Palomino released a reissue of the iconic pencils, which had disappeared in 1990.
